The first tunnel machine at this site "Helene" started tunneling west in fall 2007. It had progressed about 500 feet as of Janurary 2008.

In November, the second machine, "Rainier" was delivered to the site in pieces and is now being assembled.
Helene stopped for a while to allow this second machine to be placed in the portal, but continued.

Rainier started tunneling west in February, with both machines at full production in April.
