Vern was looking toward the Port side of the ship on taking photo on Friday, April 15, 2010.
That means the Stern is to the left where the ships single propeller is.
He didn't know this until he spotted "STBD" in the image above. :)

..... One of two Vern saw as he descended the latter. There was a second one to the left, forward. ..... The boilers were on his right. ..... He met two of the crew members who worked this area. They were past Submariners. ..... ALL THE CREW MEMBERS WERE GOOD GUYS TO MEET. |

This one is fairly new, the original had to be replaced. To the right is a chamber housing maybe a hundred different pipe wrenches. Vern talked to several crew members here. God they were wearing dirty clothes. :) They were very happy. |
