Sunday  16 September  - 1945  
0000  Anchored in Berth F-61, Tokyo Bay in 12 ftms, sand bttm. w/90 ftms chn. to port ancr. on true bearings:
           Fort No.2 186°t. & Yokosuka SE Breakwater light 241°t. Ship is burning anchor lights.

September

           Ship is burning anchor lights.

0828  Secured auxiliary steam plant. lighted off diesel plant for auxiliary purposes until
           1018 then Secured.
1018  Resumed auxiliary steam plant with Boiler #2 in use.
1030  Crew member reported to sick bay having receiving a rope burn on the 15th as he slid
           down a line over the side
while working. A dressing was applied and he returned to work.
1150  Shifted to boiler #1 for auxiliary purposes.
1820  Lt. Smith, Benjamin P.;  Lt. Bevel, Gene;  Lt. Coffin, Waren A.;  &  Lt. Beckman, John W.;
           were detached this date
to report to the USS Ticonderoga CV-14 for passage for
          Pearl Harbor, to report for orders to Separation Center.

Lt. John W. Beckman was in charge of this
deck log until his departure on this day.

Tuesday  18 September
0000  Anchored in Berth F-61, Tokyo Bay in 12 ftms, sand bttm. w/90 ftms chn. to port ancr. on true bearings:

           All boilers cut in; steam up to throttle. The port watch is set.
0500  Made preparations for getting under way.  0538 Let go the strbd anchor to 15 fathoms at water's edge.
1212  Set the Special Sea Detail. 1246 Underway, Captain at the conn.  Proceeded to sortie with TU 30.8.67.
1335  Passed Ashika Jima Lighthouse, strbd 1.5 mi. 1500 Set course 135
°t., Speed 14 knts.
           CTU in USS Terry DD-513. Took departure with Suno Saki Lighthouse 052
°t. 10.6 mi.
1938  Changed course to 130
°t., Speed to 12 knts.  2327 Changed course to 100°t. Heading East.

1015  Crew member treated for eye injury recvd on 18th while working on anchor detail. A piece of rust was removed.
