Sunday 1 April - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8. CTG is USS Detroit CL-8. Formation 8-S-1.  USS Mongahela AO-42 is guide.
           Fleet course is 230
°T.  Fleet speed is 10 knots. 
           Left Convoy for Ulithi with 4 DD's, 2 Tugs, AO-16 & another. Ran into Typhoon. DIARY

Monday 2 April  - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8.6 CTU is  USS Cowanesque AO-79. Guide is same.  Fleet course is 225°T.
           Fleet speed is 11.5 knots.
1050  Throughout the watch heavy seas caused the ship to pound heavily at times.
1427  Casualty to steering gear, shifted to steering engine room. 1440 Shifted steering to bridge, steam was temporarly
           cut off to reducer valve, while being replaced.

  Tuesday 3 April  - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8.6 CTU is USS Cowanesque AO-79. Guide is same.  Fleet course is 100°T.
           Fleet speed is 9 knots.

Wednesday  4 April  - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8.6 CTU is USS Cowanesque AO-79. Guide is same.  Fleet course is 145°T.
           Fleet speed is 13 knots. 


Thursday  5 April  - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8.6 CTU is USS Cowanesque AO-79. Guide is same.  Fleet course is 153°T.
           Fleet speed is 11 knots. 
1000  Fired one round emergency identification signal, red shower, for test purposes.

Friday  6 April  - 1945
0000  Steaming in Task Group 50.8.6 CTU is USS Cowanesque AO-79. Guide is USS Atascosa AO-66.
         
  Fleet course is 153°T. Fleet speed is 9 knots. 
0115  Radar reported land bearing 160
°T.  0140 Sighted light bearing 165°T.
0335  Energized  degaussing. 0400 Advanced clocks one hour to minus 10 zone time.
0518  Changed course to 193°T.  0525 Changed course to 241°T.  These courses mean the group rounded the
           north side of Ulithi and came in from the east. 0534 Took position #3 in column.
0545  Steering various courses & speeds to enter Ulitihi Harbor.  0641 Passed Mugai Channel Buoy #2 abeam starboard.
0731  Moored to strbs side of S.S. Lake Erie with 10 manilla lines. S.S. Lake Erie anchored in Berth #294 Ulithi Anchorage.

           Arrived Ulithi at 0600. Unloaded survivors from Franklin.

0800  Commenced pumping ballast.

           USS Mercy AH-8 for further disposition, having completed passage on board;

1035  Commenced receiving cargo fuel oil from S.S. Lake Erie, (a T2-SE-A1 Tanker MC-1740, SUN439)

  Saturday 7 April  - 1945
0000  Moored to starboard side of S.S. Lake Erie  in berth #294, southern anchorage, Ulithi Islands.
           All boilers secured, diesel engine being used for auxiliary lighting. Ship is darkened.
0135  Secured diesel engine and shifted to boiler #2 for auxiliary purposes.
0855  Completed receiving fuel oil, received 96,525 brls. at 60 F.
0908  Underway from S.S. Lake Erie. Maneuvered to strd side of S.S. Signal Hills in berth #324.
1050  Hallman, Edgar N. SF3c(T) and Wojciechowoski, Henry Walter S1c were transffered to
           USS Mercy AH-8 for treatment with baggage and records.[#3-2]
1215  USS LCI-1051 came alongside strbd.  1525 Cast off.
1410  Completed receiving gasoline from S.S. Signal Hills receiving 276,627 gal.
1510  Completed receiving diesel oil from Signal Hills, receiving 5,950 brls.
          
No log for 1600-2400 hours.
           Left Ulithi 1630 having loaded 40 enlisted, 10 seamen, 25 tons of fresh provisions. Carriers short of gas and
           bombs.
